What goes first.
What lasts.
What remains ours.

A note on the next essay.

Our next essay will examine which tasks are most exposed to AI, which remain difficult to automate, and why personal participation can retain its value even where machines perform well.

It will distinguish evidence about particular tasks from predictions about entire professions. It will also ask a more personal question: what would you still want to learn even if learning it offered no competitive advantage?

“Never” is a large promise. We will not pretend to know the permanent limits of a changing technology. We can, however, explore the difference between a machine doing something and your experience of doing it yourself.

This essay is still being researched. In the meantime, tell us what you hope we keep.
